Read Emergency Preparedness Tips in the Latest Edition of SEVP Spotlight
In consideration of National Preparedness Month and hurricane season, Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP) Director Rachel Canty discusses how designated school officials (DSOs) can prepare international students for campus emergencies in the September 2018 edition of SEVP Spotlight.
Director Canty encourages DSOs to become familiar with the emergency preparedness resources available through SEVP, Ready.gov and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to better prepare for and respond to a campus emergency. DSOs can serve as subject matter experts whenever international students are involved in an emergency event, and all international students must maintain their nonimmigrant student status, even during emergency events.
This quarterly edition of SEVP Spotlight, the first to be distributed via email through GovDelivery, also includes:
- An overview of new resources on Study in the States to help DSOs understand their record keeping requirements.
- Information about Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) password protection and safety requirements.
- A back-to-school reminder to register new and continuing international students in SEVIS.
