Midterm Check-In: Maintaining Your Status

November 27, 2012

After attending your college or university in the United States for a couple of months, you are probably feeling more comfortable on campus, have become involved in extracurricular activities and have made many new friends. As you prepare for mid-term exams, review the requirements for maintaining your student visa status while studying in the United States.

  • Enroll in a full course of study during each term. Attend and pass all of your classes.
  • If your assignments are too difficult, talk to your designated school official (DSO) immediately.
  • Talk to your DSO if you want to work, drop a class, move, transfer to a new school or make any other changes to your plans.

Always remember that your DSO wants to help you. If you have questions that your DSO cannot answer, you can call the Student and Exchange Visitor Program Response Center at 703-603-3400 or e-mail sevp@ice.dhs.gov.
