Stakeholder Webinars

Component agencies within the Department of Homeland Security host webinars on Study in the States to educate our stakeholders on various program topics and updates related to international education. These free webinars are primarily intended for F and M designated school officials; however, any stakeholder may attend or view previously recorded webinars. Each session can accommodate up to 1,000 participants and registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the webinar. Each session will focus on a different DHS-related topic that affects school officials and international students. During the live presentations, each webinar will include the opportunity for a question and answer session with webinar participants. All webinars will be recorded and available for download within one week.

SEVIS Release 6.17 Pre-Release Webinar & Batch update

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will be hosting a joint webinar with the Department of State to discuss and demonstrate the functionality included in SEVIS Release 6.17, scheduled to deploy on July 25, 2014. The agenda for this webinar is as follows:

  • Discussion and demonstration of functionality included in SEVIS Release 6.17:
    • Name Standardization Impact Report (affects F, M, and J schools and sponsors)
    • OPT Date changes and OPT indicator (affects F and M schools)
  • Question and Answer period
  • Batch Update (for F, M, and J schools and sponsors that use Batch)

SEVIS Names and Addresses—Part II

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will be hosting a joint interactive and informative webinar with the Department of State to discuss upcoming SEVIS name and address functionality changes. These enhancements will affect all SEVIS users at schools and programs, require changes to the batch process, and apply to F/M students, J exchange visitors, and dependents. This is the second webinar regarding these name and address changes in order to allow users to ask more questions. The agenda for this webinar is as follows:

  • Brief update on the upcoming changes
  • Review the top 10 already submitted questions about names and addresses
  • Open question and answer period

SEVIS Names and Addresses

SEVP will be hosting a joint webinar with the Department of State to discuss SEVIS name and address enhancements. These enhancements will have batch implications and will apply to F/M students, J exchange visitors, and dependents. The agenda for this webinar is as follows:

  • Update on the proposed enhancements, including:
    • Address quality and validation
    • Compatibility to USPS standards
    • Name standards
  • Question and Answer period

This webinar will provide SEVIS users the opportunity to ask SEVP questions about the functionality released in SEVIS Release 6.16.

SEVIS—The Way Forward

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will be hosting a joint webinar with the Department of State to provide SEVIS users with an overview of the plan to enhance SEVIS. Planned enhancements will address a variety of concerns relating to address national security, system performance, and usability. The agenda for the “SEVIS – The Way Forward” webinar is as follows:

  • Overview on needed SEVIS improvements and SEVP’s plans to address them
  • Summer 2014 (August) Release
  • Fall 2014 (November) Release
  • Plans for Releases in 2015
  • Question and Answer period

SEVIS Batch Webinar

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program and the Department of State’s Exchange Visitor Program will host this discussion on how planned Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) enhancements will affect schools and sponsors that use batch software to manage their SEVIS reporting responsibilities.

The webinar will begin with a brief overview of planned near-term changes in SEVIS, including:

  • Implementation of a SEVIS naming standard, which affects the names of nonimmigrants uploaded via batch,
  • Changes in the collection of U.S. addresses, and
  • Validation of U.S. addresses.

Pending Conversion of School Accreditations and Recognitions for Form I-17

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) hosted a webinar to discuss upcoming Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) updates. This webinar introduced the SEVIS Accreditation and Recognition (Form I–17) conversion project, which enables school officials to provide more complete accreditation and recognition data. This, in turn, assists SEVP to better verify and ensure the continued eligibility of SEVP-certified schools. The agenda for the “Pending Conversion of School Accreditations and Recognitions for Form I-17” webinar is as follows:

  • Brief overview of plans for SEVIS updates in 2014
