As an F or M student, you have many resources available on your campus and from the U.S. government to make your time in the United States successful. Knowing where to go for information makes it easier to maintain your status while you adjust to life in the United States. An article from U.S. News and World Report highlights where international students can go for help:

• International student office – The international student office on your campus employs officials who are familiar with F and M students. They will be able to answer questions or direct you to a resource to help you.
• Academic adviser – You may be assigned an academic adviser to help you choose the right classes and to help make sure you finish your program on time. An academic adviser also is available to help if you are struggling in class.

The article also suggests talking to your professors, someone in the counseling center, writing center, career services center, legal services center or the student union. In addition, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) suggests some other options for helpful resources:

• Designated school official (DSO) – SEVP-certified schools have at least one DSO on campus. Your school’s DSO can offer help in many areas:
  • Answer questions about your academic program
  • Explain what forms you need while studying in the United States
  • Answer questions and provide advice to help you maintain your status
• The SEVP Response Center (SRC) – The SRC can answer questions you may have during your time in the United States. You can reach the SRC by e-mail (sevp@ice.dhs.gov) or phone (703-603-3400 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, except holidays).
